I’m going to do it…

…I have called the Environmental Health people to see about getting registered with them, I am going to book on a food hygiene course for October.

I have decided on a name, I just need a logo now.

Follow my baking business blog at http://bakeuppayourcake.wordpress.com¬†and wish me luck! I’m going to need it! ūüėÄ

Yummy!

Today is the first day of my week off. It has been a lovely one.

Domesticity, laundry, bakery, filmery!

I got some laundry on first thing and changed the bedding. There’s nothing like fresh sheets.

I, once again, had some over-ripe bananas and you know what that means! Cake. Tasty cake. Mmm, cake. I tried to find a recipe that I wanted to try but couldn’t, so I decided to let Google image search be my friend. I found a photo of a cake that looked delicious (thank goodness computer screens are lickable is all I can say) and decided to try the recipe. This is the recipe I tried:¬†http://happyhomebaking.blogspot.co.uk/2010/07/afternoon-tea.html

Banana and walnut cake. It is scrumptious. I’m not sure why my cake is so much darker on top – maybe I need to have it lower in the oven or something. (Any baker¬†aficionados¬†have any thoughts on this?) I said it on Facebook and I will say it again here:¬†I still maintain that the best thing about being a (currently) childless adult is that you get the spoon and bowl all to yourself after baking.

I was worried that there was too much cake mix but I needn’t have.

Then, of course, the all important taste test. Cue one cup of coffee and a big slice of cake.

The cake is light, moist and tasty. Fab recipe, easy to follow. Highly recommended!

This afternoon, I watched ‘Psycho’ for the first time. We started watching it last night but there was something else on so I went off and bought the DVD this afternoon. It is utterly spectacular. Awesomely creepy, atmospheric and incredible. It as instantly entered into joint first place of my favourite movies of all time – next to the 1922 film ‘Nosferatu.’

Tomorrow, I’m not sure what I will be up to. I might tackle those housework bits that seems to get forgotten – cleaning skirting boards, doors etc. May as well! Off to the cinema tomorrow evening to see ‘Ted.’ Should be fun!

Ripe bananas. I love ’em!

I had four over-ripe bananas left in the fruit bowl today. The result? One banana and carrot cake and twelve banana buns.

They are all in the oven as I type this…Pics to follow later!

Mmm…Cake.

I think I went a bit mad with the lemon curd but hopefully it will be a success! Let’s face it, though, there really isn’t such a thing as too much lemon curd!

Behold the (slightly wonky) lemon drizzle Victoria sponge:

So much filling! Home made butter icing, lemon drizzle and shop bought lemon curd.

And then, the silly finishing touch:

Lovely! Let’s hope it tastes ok.

Someone: give this woman a badge!

The lemon drizzle cake has turned out fabulously!

It is in one piece (apart from a teeny piece which fell of and was used as the taste test!) and looks ok! It isn’t, by any means, a professional-looking cake but it isn’t bad considering the last cake I made fell to bits.

The cake rose more in the middle than the one in the picture on the BBC Good Food website. I’m not sure why that happened. I had to bake the cake for a little longer than the recipe suggested but that doesn’t seem to have made a difference.

I used the juice of two lemons, as opposed to one and a half, for the topping as I don’t have a proper juicer gadget. the problem with the way the cake rose in the middle is that the drizzle tried to escape when I poured it over. It seems to have a pretty good covering still.

This baking malarky is fun!

Verdict!

The jury is back.

The results are  in.

The votes have been cast and counted (all two of them) etc. etc. etc.

The mince pies were bloody fantastic or, to quote my boyfriend: “‘mazing!”

I think that they would have been nicer had we eaten them on the day that I made them but they are still utterly delicious. the fact that I made a dozen and we only have two left now is a fairly good testament to the fact that they don’t suck!

I was meant to be having a photoshoot today but, unfortunately, it was cancelled. In a way, I am glad because I am looking a wee bit tired at the moment. I have had a relaxing morning so far. I have put some laundry on, David has gone off to work so won’t be back until later. Do you know what?

I want to bake!

I am considering making a lemon drizzle cake. My Mum makes an absolutely delicious lemon drizzle cake. I hope it can live up to hers!

The last time I baked a cake, it went terribly wrong. This will be the true challenge.

Photos of the project to follow!

Wish me luck. (I am absolutely going to need it.)
